Marvellous Marble Machines

This week we have been busy making marble ramps in Maths.
We had to apply what we knew about 2D and 3D shapes as well as measurement and data in order to complete the challenge.
We used boxes, cardboard tubes and masking tape to create our constructions. We tried to make our designs interesting by including twists and turns.
Learning is always fun in 2C!

  1. Haw did it help you learn about math?
Was it hard to build the ramps?

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. We had to practise our measuring with our ramps and we made a graph too.
It was hard to get the ramps to stay up so we built supports. Also the marble sometimes got stuck.
It was hard to make twists and turns.

  3. We like your ramps. We never made a ramp before but this makes us want to do it.
How did you make those ramps?

    1. To make the ramps we had to make a plan and collect materials first. Then we put the ramps together using masking tape. Sometimes we had to cut the tubes to make the twists and turns. We had to keep testing our ramps to see if they worked well.

  5. Thank you for your comments.

We learnt about 2D and 3D shapes and practised measuring when we built our ramps.
We tried to build a ramp that would make the marble go two metres from the bottom of the ramp.
We used marbles because they are spheres so they roll very well.
